Yet again, it’s late (or early) and I’m on the interwebs. I had a somewhat remarkable day with an inspiring client conversation and another with an old friend. Sprinkle in a meaningful social media interaction and my sentimental ass went to YouTube seeking some “feelz” videos to close it out. I just wanted a good cry and fall asleep.
Well… that didn’t happen.
I began with queries like, “homeless money,” “kid helps homeless,” and “homeless veteran”. What came back made me hate myself.
EVERY video that came up was some douchebag (like me) conducting “social experiments” to manufacture a predictable response. In this case, my douchey brethren were hoping to gain new subscribers or get “likes.” In other words, FAKE! Worse… using societal injustice to manifest something meaningless.
But, thankfully, I found these videos.
Most days, I share the same view as Doctor Cox (a character in the show “Scrubs”).
We’re all “Bastards. Bastard coated bastards with bastard filling.”
Then I’m gifted a glimpse of the divine. A time when my cynical, movie loving self is reminded of a very powerful quote from the very badass film… “Boondock Saints”.
Now, we must all fear evil men. But, there is another kind of evil which we must fear most … and that is the indifference of good men!
These videos capture what happens when we defy indifference. When we stop thinking about ourselves and think, if only for a moment, about something outside. And it’s GENUINE ACTION WITHOUT AN AGENDA!
Kindness, respect, sportsmanship, and recognition of the simple fact that there is no competition. There is no enemy. We’re all in this together!
And yeah, cut me off in traffic and I’ll swear, gossip and speak against me and I’ll get angry, DON’T DO WHAT I WANT… and I’ll rant and rave. But “I” doesn’t matter.
Like one of the angriest comedians ever, Bill Hicks, once said,
Hey, don’t worry; don’t be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride. (…) It’s just a ride. But we always kill the good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok … But it doesn’t matter, because it’s just a ride. And we can change it any time we want. It’s only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings of money. Just a simple choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one. Here’s what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace.
So… yeah… Happy Thursday you bastards! 😀 Watch these videos and see just how amazing we can be when we want to be. 🙂
